CAFViewer Low-Z Calculator Tutorials

Tutorial 1: Converting a loudspeaker power rating to RMS voltage

Step 1: Enter loudspeakers rated power in watts.

Step2: Enter the loudspeaker’s rated impedance in ohms.

Step 3: Read the RMS voltage next to MIV.

Tutorial 2: Converting Amplifier’s 8 ohm Power Rating to RMS Voltage

Step 1: Scale Volts RMS until amplifier watts equals amplifier’s 8 ohm rated power.

Step 2: Read RMS voltage below Crest Factor.

Step 3: Select volts or dBV for units.

Tutorial 3: Determine Required Amplifier Size for AES 75 Rating

Step 1: Set Crest Factor to 18 dB.

Step 2: Scale Volts Max to loudspeaker’s Maximum Input Voltage (MIV).

Step 3: Read required amplifier 8 ohm rating in watts.

Step 4: Read required amplifier peak voltage.

Tutorial 4: Find the Required AWG Based on Loudspeaker Impedance and Cable Length

Step 1: Enter loudspeaker’s rated impedance.

Step 2: Scale cable length to desired value.

Step 3: Read required minimum AWG.

Tutorial 5: Find the SPL at a Listener Distance Based on EASE GLL Sensitivity and Maximum Input Voltage

Step 1: Determine average sensitivity from EASE GLL file.

Step 2: Determine maximum input voltage from EASE GLL file.

Step 3: Set Low-Z calculator to dBV mode.

Step 4: Enter loudspeaker average sensitivity.

Step 5: Scale Volts Max until maximum input voltage (step 2) is reached.

Step 6: Enter listener distance in feet or meters.

Step 7: Read axial RMS SPL. This should agree with EASE 5 (direct field) and EASE Focus simulations.
